TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Administration plans to complete the revitalization of the Semanggi overpass by mid-2017. "We hope that by August 17, 2017, the overpass could be fully operational," said the Head of Public Works of the Jakarta Administration, Yusmada Faizal in Jakarta, April 8, 2016.
The development of the new, Semanggi overpass is expected to alleviate congestion around the Semanggi round about, because the new scheme will mean that motorists from Jl. Jendral Gatot Subroto and Jendral Sudirman will no longer have to intersect underneath the iconic traffic roundabout.
Motorist heading to Cawang will be able to turn left, straight to Semanggi towards Bundaran HIm while those moving from Slipi would simply take an exit to enter an overpass which will lead them above Semanggi onwards to Blok M. Despite the major revitalisation, the original shape of the four leaved clover will be maintained, as it is one of the icons of the capital.
The funding for the revitalization project is derived from PT Mitra Panca Persada, who will fund the project as a compensation for violating the maximum allowable building height in the area - as outlined by Building Regulation No.175/2015. Construction is to be taken care off by PT Wijaya Karya.
Despite the significant construction, traffic flow across the area is expected to only experience minimal disruption as the majority of the construction will be anchored on Semanggi Park, right below the flyovers.
